ITC is implementing The Gambia Youth Empowerment Project (YEP), which is a four-year project launched in 2017 that aims at supporting youth employment and entrepreneurship to address the economic root causes of irregular migration. It is funded by the European Union (EU) Emergency Trust Fund for Africa. In addition, ITC is also implementing the Jobs, Skills and Finance (JSF) for Women and Youth in The Gambia Programme, in partnership with the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). This programme aims to contribute in stabilizing the economic, social and security situation of the by facilitating social inclusion and employment of the youth and women, with a specific emphasis on promoting gender equality and addressing climate change. In this regard, ITC is launching The Skills for Youth Employment (SkYE) Fund to roll-out skills development programmes for youth in The Gambia in 2019. The SkYE Fund is a results-based competitive funding model that ensures the critical importance of training youth to meet existing job needs, or in the case of self-employment, successfully meet market opportunities. In this phase, the SkYE Fund aims to equip 1, 600 Gambian youth with market-relevant technical and vocational skills in partnership with local training institutions. The SkYE Fund is limited to applications from institutions, companies and associations with a presence in The Gambia.
