Are you a youth with an interest in developing agricultural skills and creating employment for yourself? You can enrol now in series of trainings on agricultural skills development.

The Gambia National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) and the International Trade Centre (ITC) are partnering through the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) to create a new generation of young agricultural entrepreneurs. NARI invites interested candidates to apply to undergo four month’s training in the following areas:

  1. Certified seed production (Field crops)
  2. Plant propagation techniques
  3. Backyard fish pond construction and management
  4. Livestock and fish feed formulation

The trainings will start from 1st December, 2017 to 31th March, 2018. Ten trainees will be recruited in each of the four areas stated above. Certified seed production component will be conducted in Sapu, central river region. Trainees for this component will be housed in the Sapu agricultural camp. The plant propagation techniques, backyard fish pond construction and management, and livestock and fish feed formulation trainings will be conducted at NARI’s satellite station in Yundum, West coast region. Female candidates are encouraged to apply. The aim of the trainings is to equip youths with agricultural skills to enhance their livelihoods.

Selection Criteria

  • Applicant must be Gambian citizen
  • Aged between 15 and 35 years
  • Be able to read and write in English
  • Have access to production land
  • Must be involved in agriculture
  • Demonstrate willingness to stay in or around the training venues
