Through the support of the EU Funded Youth Empowerment Project in partnership with the Government of the Gambia, Kanifing Municipal Council and the Community of Bakoteh, the Bakoteh Production and Innovation Centre (BPIC) is setup with dual objectives of providing training as well as production and commercialisation of garments, textile and handicraft products.
To promote sector wide collaboration, improve products quality, made in the Gambia textiles and develop market linkages, and skills, the International Trade Centre is supporting a training of trainers on weaving on one of the latest models of looms in weaving technology. Two other communities will be supported to set up weaving hubs producing a wide range of products. The production hubs will be connected to the Bakoteh Production Centre and ongoing development work by other partners in the area of garments, skills, textiles and handicraft.
